Back when I lived in San Francisco, I loved riding my bike to Sausalito and dropping in on the No Name Bar. It was a warm, old-fashioned bar with wood beams and chess games on the tables. Great Ramos fizzes, and a bike rack out front.
As I rode down the street, I’d see the No Name Bar sign clearly up on the left. The proprietors of the No Name Bar were smart.
They knew they did not need a name, but they did need a sign.
An unoptimized Website is like a store without a sign.
You know the Website is there because you’ve heard about it, but when you drop into a search engine looking for it, you can’t find it. You cruise up and down all the search engine paths you can think of, and that store’s just not there.
The store has a name, but no sign. No SEO, no content SEO, no optimization.
You may have thought when you named your site that that was enough. It isn’t. The Web is an enormous, chaotic world. People are traveling the search engines right now looking for a store like yours.
Put up a sign; let them know you’re there. By the way, the No Name Bar is still there, still got the sign up out front. No website that I can find.
