I added a couple of pages to my Website recently in response to confusion and questions amongst business executives, managers and entrepreneurs who have been asking me about social marketing. One page is for small business owners, the other for executives, entrepreneurs, managers and individuals.
You’ll find my social marketing services there, and here is an answer to a question I get a lot:
Why do it? – Why would a gainfully employed individual or a business owner take time for any of the social marketing, be it LinkedIn, Facebook, blogs, forums or others?
Personal Branding
The big answer, in just two words: Personal Branding.
You’ve Googled people. (Go on, admit it. We all do.) If I meet you at a business lunch and we connect on some level, you can be pretty sure I’ll be Googling you later that day. Call it human nature, curiosity, or just plain nosiness; when people connect, they get interested, and when they get interested, they ask around about you. In today’s Web world, they Google you.
Your online presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, Google Profile, blogs, etc.) is what people see when they Google you. It’s your “brand”. You may not have a logo, but what you do have on the Web is a window into your world.
Headhunters Google you, and so do recruiters, colleagues, potential customers and employees.
Savvy businesspeople, whether they are entrepreneurs, corporate managers or executives, make sure they are the ones who create the brand that attaches to their name.
And that, in short, is why – no matter who you are – you want to create your own LinkedIn and other profiles.
Of course, if you don’t have time to figure it all out on your own, I understand. Hire me, and I’ll get you set up in all the appropriate places and coach you on how to keep your online presence fresh and positive.
