You Don’t Have to Tweet

And you don’t have to pay someone to tweet for you, either. You can just – not.

If Twitter seems to you like nothing more than whistling into the wind, then it’s not for you. Often, I think it’s not for me, either. At the end of the day, having had Tweets scrolling down my Tweetdeck steadily since 8 a.m., I am often unable even to watch television without wanting to scream.

But. I seldom do.

Instead, I consider: What would happen if I didn’t tweet tomorrow? Or the next day? I’ve tried it, and life has gone on unhampered.

My take on social media: Pick the ones that work for you. Look for that good fit between you, your networking style and your customers/clients. Then go for it. Most likely, your business is an extension of your style. Work it.

And when someone approaches you, aghast that you are not tweeting, go ahead and scream. That’s what I’d do. Or at least, I’d want to.
