When Twitter works, it’s huge. It engages, connects your customers to you, creates loyalty, buzz, enthusiasm and all those things we all want for our biz’s. But how to make it work for you?
Biggest question I get, after the, “why would I want to know what some so-and-so had for breakfast!?” sort of response (that Twitter often so rightly deserves!) is, “What would I say? And why?”
The answer, in much more than 140 characters:
Twitter is less about telling people things, and NOT about pushing out press release info on your company or sharing your breakfast menu; it’s about engaging your customers in a dialog. The more back-and-forth conversation you get going, the better. Look to the big corp. tweeters to see some of the ways you can use the app.
- Starbucks uses Twitter to answer questions – lots of questions about coffee, locations, ingredients. And, amidst the energetic convo they have going, they pop in notes on new products.
- Tweet out special deals and coupons. If you can get enough of these going, then you’re on an inside track. Who doesn’t love a deal. The Gap is one of many retailers that tweets deals every day.
- Tweet some tips that relate to your product. You’re the expert. Share.
- Tweet fun tidbits and serious stuff, too, all leading back to your Website. NO one does this better than Ellen DeGeneres.
Get started. Pop up a Tweet. I bet you’ll think of LOTS more you have to say!
